The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has eulogised the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, on his 57th birthday.
Shettima turns 57 on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
The Speaker said Shettima has demonstrated courage, zeal and commitment to nation building over the years, especially when he served as a two-term governor of Borno State and a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Abbas noted with delight Shettima’s invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, saying the Vice President has achieved a lot as an accomplished banker and a politician of repute at 57.
Describing the Vice President as a great pillar to Nigeria, the Speaker said Shettima is an asset and a capable hand to assist President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to achieve his mandate.
He said Shettima has exhibited loyalty and commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging Nigerians to support them for the betterment of all.
He said, “I salute our dear Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, on the occasion of his 57th birthday. The VP remains a committed democrat whose belief in our democracy is unwavering.
“The Vice President is also a capable hand to help the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration achieve the mandate Nigerians gave to it in February this year.
“I make bold to say that Vice President Shettima is a role model to millions of Nigerians at home and abroad. Indeed, upcoming generations of Nigerians have a lot to learn from this formidable democrat.”
Abbas wished Shettima more years in good health and an increased wisdom from the Almighty Allah.
Born on September 2, 1966, Vice President Shettima worked in the banking sector for many years. He became the Borno State Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development in 2007 and later served in four different ministries from that year to 2011.
He was elected as the governor of Borno State in 2011 and got reelected in 2015. VP Shettima became the Senator representing Borno Central in 2019 and was elected as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria alongside President Tinubu in February, 2023.
The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatization, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, also extolled the virtues of Shettima on the occasion of his 57th birthday.
Senator Barau, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, said the Vice President, who was born in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on September 2nd, 1966, has made indelible progressive marks in both private and public spheres of the country to the admiration of all.
He said, “As a banker, he was one of the high flyers in the industry before delving into the political scene where he is contributing immensely to the entrenchment of democracy in the country.
“He raised the bar in governance during his tenure as governor of Borno State between 2011 and 2019, despite the security challenges in the state at that time.
“Also, as chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior (2019 -2023), he worked tirelessly to address the challenges facing agencies under his committee.
“I pray Allah (SWT) to continue to grant him sound health and wisdom in his endeavours and support for the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to successfully deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda for the peace and progress of our dear country.”
On his part, Kalu in a goodwill message issued to newsmen on Friday in Abuja, described Shettima – a former Governor of Borno state – as a consummate politician and philanthropist of repute.
He said that Nigeria’s Vice President has consistently demonstrated loyalty, dedication and commitment to the growth and progress of humanity and Nigeria in general.
He said, “I am delighted to congratulate Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 57th birthday.
“The Vice President has contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria as a Governor, Senator and more as the current Vice President and in various capacities.
“His contributions to nation building are worthy of commendation and emulation.
“He has consistently demonstrated humility, courage, selflessness and generosity in his pursuits.I urge the Vice President to sustain his good deeds in all facets of life.”
