The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Idris Gobir, has accused the former Governor of the state, Aminu Tambuwal, of leaving the state coffers empty when he handed over power to Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
Gobir made this allegation on Thursday, when he answered a question from Benjamin Kanu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who was on a condolence visit to the state. Kanu had asked how Aliyu was able to deliver 100 projects in his first 100 days in office.
The deputy governor said that they had to make a sacrifice to transform the state, as they found nothing in the treasury when they assumed office about five months ago.
“We inherited an empty treasury and nothing to show, not a single paper was handed over to us.
“We made a sacrifice to change the narrative of the state and we have succeeded in changing it within the last 100 days,” he said.
He also praised the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of the state government, attributing it to the mentorship of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Kanu commended the state government for executing various developmental projects across the state, saying it was a sign of good leadership that improved the lives of the people.
He said that they came to Sokoto to sympathize with the people over the demise of their colleague who was a patriot and a believer in national unity.
