From all indications and speculations from sources, close to the corridor of power, a former governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode may be favoured in the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to speculation flying around, Ambode might replace the senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Tokunbo Abiru, at the 10th National Assembly.
Premium Politic reported earlier that President Tinubu and Ambode met at the State reception organised by Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Lagos Marina House, in honour of the President, during his Salah holiday in Lagos, recently.
However, the duo of Tinubu and Ambode met at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, when the former Lagos governor visited his boss on Saturday.
According to reports, the meeting is believed to be the final reconciliation between both former governors after Ambode fell out with his boss in 2019, when he could not get his second term ticket, as governor.
Tinubu’s meeting with Ambode on Friday sparked rumours suggesting that the president is considering the former Lagos governor for an appointment in the current administration.
Few sources, privy to the development asserted that possibilities are that the former Lagos State governor would bag a senatorial seat.
According to The Punch, a source said Abiru is marked for a ministerial appointment, and if the calculation goes well, Ambode might take his place as Senator.
“There are possibilities that the former governor will get a position either in the Presidency or in the state if permutations work well in his favour,” the source said.
However, another source said Special Adviser to the President on Monetary Policies, Wale Edun, might become a minister, representing Ogun State.
“Edun’s case was one of the issues the President discussed with Ogun State traditional rulers when he visited them a few weeks ago,” he said.
The source revealed that Edun was reportedly the preferred candidate of Tinubu as a minister under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, but he was denied the ticket.
