President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform.
The announcement was made on Friday night by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who stated that the appointment is aimed at driving meaningful progress in the livestock sector and strengthening national development efforts.
Jega, a former Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Reform Committee alongside President Tinubu. The committee provided comprehensive recommendations on sustainable livestock reforms, including the creation of a dedicated Livestock Ministry, which has since been established.
A respected academic and administrator, Jega, 68, is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. Onanuga emphasized that Jega’s appointment would ensure continuity in the implementation of the committee’s recommendations.
“His appointment as special adviser to President Tinubu will reinforce the gains of the presidential committee and ensure the continued momentum of the reforms already in motion,” Onanuga stated.
Jega previously served as INEC chairman from 2010 to 2015, overseeing Nigeria’s landmark 2015 general elections.
