President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation following a thorough selection process.
The appointment, which was approved on Tuesday, will take effect on March 7, 2025, the same day the current Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire.
This was confirmed in a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Spokesman.
Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. According to the statement, a selection committee chose Ogunjimi through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process that involved Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service. The process included three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and an oral interview.
The statement emphasized that the selection process highlights President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service roles.
Ogunjimi, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy, which he earned in 1990. He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
In his congratulatory message, President Tinubu urged Ogunjimi to serve Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication as he takes on his new responsibilities.
