In a move aimed at addressing the longstanding conflicts between herders and farmers, President Bola Tinubu has announced the creation of a new ministry dedicated to livestock development.
The announcement was made on Tuesday at the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, held at the State House in Abuja.
The establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development is a key recommendation of the National Livestock Reforms Committee, which aimed to provide long-term solutions to the recurring clashes between herders and farmers.
While the ministry’s creation has been announced, a substantive minister has not yet been named to head the new ministry, according to ThisDay.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by top government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, among others.
The new ministry is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the challenges facing the livestock industry and promoting peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.
