President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, November 12, 2023, for his onward journey to Makkah, where he intends to perform Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage.
Umrah is a voluntary act of worship that Muslims can perform at any time of the year, except during the days of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage. Umrah involves visiting the Grand Mosque in Makkah and performing certain rituals, such as circumambulating the Kaaba, walking between the hills of Safa and Marwa, and shaving or trimming the hair.
President Tinubu was accompanied by some top government officials. He was received at the King Abdulaziz International Airport by the Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Muhammadu Buhari Jr., and other Saudi dignitaries.
Last week, the president held bilateral talks with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia on issues of mutual interest, especially in the areas of oil and gas, trade and investment, and security cooperation.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria later this week.
