President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, to co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Engagement, Frederick Nwabufo, announced the development in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
“President Tinubu in Cape Town, South Africa, for the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission meeting. He was received by South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr. Roland Lamola, alongside Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu,” the statement read.
Tinubu’s arrival follows his recent state visit to France. On Sunday, December 1, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed in a statement that Tinubu would leave France on Monday for Cape Town to participate in the BNC.
The presidential meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, will be preceded by a ministerial meeting held on Monday, December 2, at the South African Parliament Building.
The commission’s agenda includes discussions on a range of critical issues aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. Topics to be covered include political consultations, consular and migration matters, banking and finance, defence and security, manufacturing, social sector development, mines and energy, and trade and investments.
President Tinubu was welcomed at the Cape Town International Airport by Roland Lamola, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
This high-level meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to deepening cooperation and addressing shared challenges in various sectors.
