President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with traditional rulers at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, which began at 2:30 pm, is being led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
Although the agenda for the meeting has not been disclosed, it is speculated that it may address the planned nationwide protests against economic challenges, set to take place from August 1 to 10, 2024.
The ‘EndBadGovernance’ movement has gained significant attention on social media, despite the organizers’ anonymity.
In attendance at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
Also present are Governors Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, and Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who chairs the Progressives Governors Forum.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, are also participating in the meeting.
Earlier, President Tinubu met with APC Governors at the Villa, but the Governors declined to brief the press on the meeting’s outcomes.
