President Bola Tinubu has restated his commitment to move Nigeria forward following his victory at the Supreme Court, which affirmed his election in the 2023 presidential poll.
He thanked the judiciary for upholding the will of the people and urged Nigerians to join hands with his administration to tackle the challenges facing the nation.
Tinubu, who spoke through his Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, said he would be a president for all Nigerians, regardless of their differences. He said he had initiated a national discourse that would heal national wounds and unite the country.
The President also appealed to Nigerians to endure the pains of his ongoing reforms, which he said were necessary for the economic growth and prosperity of the country. He said he had implemented unprecedented reforms in the petroleum, foreign exchange, tax, and social sectors, which would benefit Nigerians in the long run.
Tinubu said, “The Courts have spoken and the President and the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress have welcomed this judicial victory as pronounced. We thank the Judiciary for the painstaking work that they have done, and for rising to the occasion in fulfillment of their constitutional mandate as the final arbiters of electoral proceedings in the country.
“Now that the legal contest regarding the outcome of the presidential election is now behind us, it is time for all of us to come together and move forward, into a season of governing that is without distraction.
“These are indeed challenging economic times, not just for Nigeria, but also for many countries around the world, and all hands must be on deck to tackle the challenges confronting us.”
He listed some of the programmes his administration had launched or was planning to launch to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians, such as cash transfers, grain distribution, fertilizer supply, access-to-credit scheme, technical talent development, and student loan programme.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to work tirelessly to actualise the Renewed Hope Agenda that formed the basis of his coming into office.
