President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Abdullahi Mustapha as the Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency for a second term of five years.
The announcement was made in a press statement issued by Toyin Omozuwa, the press secretary to the NBRDA Director General, on Saturday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Mustapha’s reappointment was formalized in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
His second term will commence on October 31, 2024, in accordance with the provisions of Section 10 (1) and (3) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022.
Industry experts view Mustapha’s reappointment as a strong endorsement of his leadership and an indication of President Tinubu’s confidence in his ability to foster innovation, particularly in areas such as food security.
The statement further noted that the reappointment would allow Mustapha to continue his work in advancing pharmaceutical production and positioning Nigeria as a leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Mustapha, a Professor of Bioinorganic Chemistry, is from Dambatta Local Government Area in Kano State.
“Mustapha’s second tenure is with effect from 31st October, 2024 and is in line with the provisions of Section 10 (1) and (3) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022,” according to the statement.
