The Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, on Friday, delivered a unanimous verdict affirming Hope Uzodimma’s election as Imo State Governor.
The tribunal, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, dismissed the petition filed by the Labour Party and its governorship hopeful, Athan Achonu.
The tribunal found that Uzodimma’s election substantially complied with the Electoral Act, and the Labour Party failed to provide sufficient evidence to support its allegations of electoral malpractices.
Uzodimma who contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, won the November 11 governorship election with a significant margin, receiving 540,308 votes, according to Channels TV.
His closest rival, Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party, secured 71,503 votes, while Achonu came third with 64,081 votes.
Achonu had challenged the election result, citing irregularities in some areas of the state.
However, the tribunal’s ruling has reaffirmed Uzodimma’s victory, upholding the outcome of the election.
