The Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday adjourned the £100,000 bribery case against former Petroleum Minister and Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries president, Diezani Alison-Madueke, till November 2025.
The court adjourned the hearing on Monday, citing the complexity of the case.
Alison-Madueke, 63, faces charges of receiving £100,000 in bribes for awarding lucrative oil and gas contracts during her tenure as minister from 2010 to 2015. She was arrested in London in 2015 and released on bail with strict conditions, as the court deemed her a flight risk.
The UK’s National Crime Agency has been investigating Alison-Madueke’s alleged corruption for years and has frozen millions of pounds worth of assets linked to her offenses.
The NCA has also collaborated with the United States Department of Justice and Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to recover more than $200 million from her illicit activities.
According to the NCA, Alison-Madueke enjoyed a lavish lifestyle with the proceeds of her bribes, including cash, cars, jets, holidays, and properties in London.
She has denied any wrongdoing and has challenged the legality of the UK’s jurisdiction over her case.
