The United Nations Development Programme has promised to reduce poverty and inequality in Nigeria through inclusive growth.
The pledge was made by the UNDP Representative to Nigeria, Mohammed Yahya, during a courtesy call to the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Yahya stated that the UNDP will continue offering Nigeria the necessary support, to overcome its challenges.
It would be recalled that the National Bureau of Statistics earlier said in last year November, that 133 million Nigerians were multidimensionally poor.
However, the UNDP Representatives said, “Inclusive growth is how to reduce inequality, reduce the poverty rate and support the country’s agenda, considering that Nigeria is the driving seat of Africa.
“We also support governance at the state level. The peace-building part is our biggest challenge because it is new but we have huge stabilisation programmes in the North-East and North-West.”
Also speaking during the visit of the UNDP delegate, Bagudu noted that President Bola Tinubu has been passionate about inclusive growth, which was part of the National Development Plan 2021-2025 and Agenda 2050.
