Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has announced that aspirants who purchased forms for Local Government elections under the All Progressives Congress platform but did not emerge as candidates will receive refunds starting from Monday.
The Governor’s Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri over the weekend.
According to the statement, “The Governor of Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma, has assured that all aspirants on the All Progressives Congress platform who failed to secure the party’s tickets for the upcoming local government election on September 21, 2024, will receive refunds starting from Monday.”
Governor Uzodimma clarified, “Only the funds spent on purchasing forms from the party will be refunded, excluding expenses made without receipts, such as those spent on consultations.”
He further stated, “All the people that applied as aspirants to run for either councillorship or chairmanship in the local government election who are not successful, your moneys will be refunded tomorrow (Monday). The ones we will not refund is the one you gave without receipts (for consultations).”
The Governor urged aspirants to remain steadfast and consider the greater good of the party and state above individual interests.
He also pleaded with leaders whose expectations may have been disappointed to bear with the party and make sacrifices for the party’s and state’s benefit.
“Again, I want to assure the public that the election will proceed as scheduled by the Imo State Electoral Commission on September 21, 2024,” the Governor insisted.
