Laolu Akande, the spokesperson to the Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osibajo, has stated the reason why the former Attorney General of Lagos State, battled his former boss, to contest for the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket.
Speaking on Channels Television, during an interview on Friday, Akande stated that his boss took the step in the interest of the public.
According to him, people see Osibajo as a representation of a new Nigeria, and he could not afford to fail them.
“What is important is that you take the step you want to take in the best interest of the people. Public interest is the overriding factor. Jo
“People see him as a representation of a new Nigeria. All of these can’t be in place and he just walks away.
“He did what he needed to do and the party made the decision and he just has to move on after doing the right thing,” he said.
Professor Osibajo, who contested with the former Lagos governor, lost at the primaries, and never partook in the electioneering campaigns that led to Tinubu’s victory, as the President-elect, at the last presidential election, in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Osibajo’s action attracted a wide range of criticisms from the members of the public, who insisted that he acted like a betrayal, for contesting with his benefactor, who worked his way up the ladder to his political relevance.
