The national vice Chairman (South-West) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran, has revealed the reason why the party has not been able to discipline the immediate former governor of River State, Nyesom Wike, over his alleged anti-party activities.
Alhaji Owokoniran, who stated this during a media chat, said the party is concerned with more important national issues than talk about Wike.
The PDP Chieftain who revealed that the party is not unconcerned about Wike’s activities noted that the party will rather address more pressing issues than talk about the former Rivers governor.
“There are more serious issues that the party is concerned about. The party is more concerned about insecurity in the country, and also the inconclusive election, as far as we are concerned.
“There’s the issue of subsidy removal, which the government is struggling to defend. The issue of interference in the Niger Republic is also another problem that the party is concerned about.
“So, all these issues are more important than elevating an individual. I’m sure that all the issues will be addressed one after the other
“In my view, the party is an institution. It is a question of summoning a meeting, having an agenda, addressing issues and coming up with a resolution. It takes time for the processes to be materialized,” Owokoniran said.
The PDP Chieftain while speaking about the concern of Nigerians over the PDP’s inability to play the role of strong opposition, said, “If Nigerians have observed questionable things, of course, every member of the party will be concerned and there is no way the party will ignore it.
Speaking about why the party has still not acted when it is obvious that Wike is no more a member of the party, even though he hasn’t officially joined the APC, He explained that an organ of the party will decide at the right time.
“It is an organ of the party that will decide the issue of Wike.
“It’s difficult to have an individual member of the party make that decision. The party will act at the appropriate time,” he added.
