A new faction has emerged in the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, deepening the party’s internal crisis.
The faction is led by Aminu Sani Jaji, a member of the House of Representatives representing Birinin Magaji/Kaura Namoda Federal Constituency.
This development brings the total number of factions in the state’s APC chapter to four, with former Governor Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, Minister of State for Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa leading the other three factions.
According to Daily Post, Jaji’s faction has established its own secretariat in Gusau, the state capital, and appointed a acting state chairman.
The faction claims that the state chairman and his executives have been suspended.
The emergence of Jaji’s faction comes after a failed reconciliation attempt by Yari, who gathered party leaders in the state in a bid to resolve their differences.
The meeting ended without a resolution, leading to Jaji’s declaration of independence.
The crisis in Zamfara APC has raised concerns about the party’s chances in the 2027 election, given the similar internal conflict that led to the party’s defeat in 2019.
