Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other PDP governors in Benin City, ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
However, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was noticeably absent from the rally.
The meeting, held on Saturdsy, was part of the PDP’s grand finale campaign for the Edo state governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, led the governors.
Makinde’s absence comes after former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s recent outburst, where he stated he would never support Fubara in his political life.
Wike, who led the G5 faction within the PDP, had withheld his support for Atiku in the 2023 presidential election.
The PDP rally aimed to mobilize support for the party’s candidate in the upcoming election. The absence of key figures like Makinde raises questions about the party’s unity ahead of the polls.
