The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, has commenced mobilization efforts in the lead-up to the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
On Friday, Obi led Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Edo State, on a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, to seek his blessings for the upcoming election.
Peter Obi, while expressing gratitude to the Oba for his fatherly role, emphasized the importance of having a free, fair, and credible election for the nation’s progress. He stated, “the party can make a headway as we begin our political campaigns ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.”
Olumide Akpata, speaking on his campaign’s commencement, explained the significance of visiting the Oba to seek his blessings. He remarked, “I believe that your prayers, Your Majesty, will go a long way in helping us as I embark on this mission of rescuing the state. The Labour Party is strong and vibrant to wrestle power and deliver the dividends of democracy to the 18 local government areas of the state.”
In response, the Oba of Benin extended his well-wishes to his visitors, noting that while he remains apolitical and would extend his prayers to all candidates who seek his audience, he acknowledged the prominence of the Akpata name nationwide.
Prior to visiting the Oba, Peter Obi was welcomed at the Labour Party’s state secretariat. This visit was followed by a road walk through key areas of the Benin metropolis. Additionally, the campaign office of Olumide Akpata was inaugurated along Boundary Road in the Government Reserved Area.
