The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to the leadership crisis, rocking the party, after the loss at the last general election in Nigeria.
The former Anambra governor, who spoke about the crisis, during the party’s National Executive Meeting, in Asaba, Delta State yesterday April 18, 2023, said the embattled national chairman of the party, Mr. Julius Abure, remains his own man amid the leadership crisis rocking the party.
Answering questions during the NEC meeting, Mr. Obi said “The case is in court. I have respect for that, but he remains my own man.”
It would be recalled that after losing the 2023 general election, the leadership crisis started rocking the party, when a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, ruled that Abure should stop parading himself as the National Chairman of the party, and the party national secretariat in Abuja, was sealed up by the police, barely a week after the Chairman was suspended for anti-party activities, by a ward in Edo state,
Meanwhile, the deputy national chairman of the party, Lamidi Bashir Apapa, who has been at the center of allegations of being used by the opposition parties, took over the party as an acting chairman, following the resolution of the court.
However, there was another confusion, when a High Court in Benin, Edo State, gave a counter order, restraining the embattled chairman to be removed from office, anybody.
