The National Assembly has refuted rumours circulating on social media that President Bola Tinubu will present the 2025 budget to a joint session on Wednesday.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Secretary of Research and Information at the National Assembly, Dr. Ali Umoru, described the claims as unfounded and urged Nigerians to disregard them.
“The purported claim that the 2025 budget will be presented tomorrow is untrue,” the statement read. “The necessary legislative process for budget presentation, including the approval of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, is still ongoing.”
Dr. Umoru stressed that the legislative process requires the approval of the 2024–2026 MTEF and FSP before the national budget can be presented. He clarified that this critical step has yet to be completed, making the rumoured presentation date inaccurate.
He urged media outlets and the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, adding, “All official communications regarding the National Assembly should come through its authorized channels. Spreading misleading reports only causes unnecessary confusion.”
The National Assembly reaffirmed its dedication to transparency in governance, stating that the process of finalizing the fiscal framework is progressing.
Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Finance has been engaging with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to conclude work on the MTEF/FSP.
This clarification comes as Nigerians eagerly await the unveiling of the 2025 budget, expected to outline the government’s economic priorities and strategies for the year.
